Semi-retired Married 2
I have been blessed to have my path changed from what I thought it would be upon graduation.  Graduated from Univ. of Richmond with a major in Health & P.E. in 1973, received my M.S. in P.E. from Smith in 1974, then on to teach P.E. and coach at Williams College for several years before I discovered Colorado(!)  Moved here in 1980, met my husband here, and we have been married since 1982.  My career in P.E. ended after a few years, and I have enjoyed working part-time in various fields since then.  In 2010, my "residential designer" and "do-it-yourself" husband and I purchased 23 acres with three "fixer-uppers", where we now live (not in the same house!) with our eldest son and his family.  Our grandkids range in age from 5 years to 4 weeks, and we absolutely LOVE being involved in their daily lives.  We are nearing the end of renovating (not "restoring") the oldest farmhouse on the property for the kids to live in.  It has been a part-time effort as George and son Kevin are still employed, and the entire family has done most of the work!  Our place is next on the list. Son Paul and his wife Sarah are serving overseas, expecting their first child in Feb. I see travel in our future!  Sorry not to make the reunion, but maybe another Colorado "Mini-reunion" will be planned??  Send Linda a MessageSend Linda a Message

Retired Married 3
After our graduation, I took a “gap year” (long before it was cool) and then thrashed around at NVCC for three years until I met Sharon Malarkey of Portland, Oregon the summer of 1972 when she lived at Park Arlington on Courthouse Road and I was a lifeguard.  With a newfound direction, I graduated from VA Tech in 1974. We moved to Oregon where I attended graduate school at The University of Oregon School of Journalism. Went on to a 40-year career as a media sales and marketing exec; most significantly in the Seattle area at The Washington Post owned Everett Herald and the NPR Seattle affiliate, retiring in 2016.  Together for 47 years, Sharon and I have three children who live in Washington state and eight grandchildren aged four weeks to 10 years.  We have homes in Seattle and on the Oregon Coast near Cannon Beach where we divide our time when not travelling or helping with grandchildren.  I am assisting Sharon’s family with a second book about her father, Sgt. Donald Malarkey, a 101st Airborne D-Day paratrooper who was instrumental in the development of Stephen Ambrose’s “Band of Brothers” which lead to the “Saving Private Ryan” screenplay and the HBO mini-series in which Don’s character was widely portrayed. RETIRED Married 2
Blessed far more than I deserve.  The B-/C+ student went to Ferrum  JC (AA) then a BA in English from Va Tech in 1972. Met  bride to be Linda Anne Walker (Falls Church HS 68) at Tech in 1970.  The English Major went on to get an MBA from George Mason and morphed into technology consulting with Ernst & Whinney (now EY) and retired as Assoc. Partner with IBM Global Services in 2009. Married 45 years, two sons, and one delightful 20 month old granddaughter.  Lived in Falls Church/Fairfax until a supposed three year jaunt in 2004 took us to Central Coast Cali near San Luis Obispo. Knew my life had changed when I was drinking bottles of wine that cost more than a gallon of gin.  Here in CA 15 years but this 10th generation Virginian (Lewis of Warner Hall family) WILL be back in Va (TU in a box maybe). Very close with twin bro John and other two brothers. Keep active in retirement with AARP Tax-Aide program and civic activities. Wouldn’t change a single thing. Yes, blessed. Therapist https://www.lisagrinnell.com/ Married 2

In the 50+ years since graduation, I lived in California where I received a BA in Management and worked with start-ups in Silicon Valley. In the 1990s I studied mindfulness, ordained as a Buddhist nun in Asia to practice mindfulness for a period of time, and seeing how transformative it can be for physical and emotional stress, returned to the US for a master’s degree in Counseling to specialize in mindfulness based cognitive therapies. I lived in New Mexico for 15 years where I co-founded a volunteer center, worked in the state women’s prison as a mental health therapist and mindfulness teacher, and developed a private practice. Today I live in St Petersburg, Florida with my husband Miguel and our dog Lucy. I have 2 stepchildren and 2 grandchildren. I am a Counselor in hospice, and have a small private practice. Although Miguel and I will miss the reunion, please feel free to reach out for a call or a visit.

Married 3
After moving to Charlottesville to attend UVA, I fell in love with the place and have called it home for 49 of the past 50 years, marrying a fellow reporter (Sarah McConnell) and raising a family with her. We have three wonderful daughters  (Helen, Logan and Stella) and four grandchildren with two of them in DC and two in Berlin, Germany, a great place to visit. I made a career in radio and newspaper journalism, covering state and local government and politics and justice issues. In 2008 my days at the local paper ended as I started work at UVA directing the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership for eight years and working the past three as communications director for UVA's Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service. Retired Divorced
Retired 12 years ago after living in Alexandria and working for the Department of State for 34 years.  Seven years later divorced and moved to an active adult community just north of Tucson, Arizona, on the western side of the Santa Catalina mountain range with amazing views and fabulous hiking.  I'm a docent at a local desert botanical garden and working on certification as a master naturalist.  September will find me biking the Tuscan coast in Italy celebrating the next decade with a group of remarkable gals from the community. Retired Married
After graduation I attended classes at Madison State College in Virginia, then on to Athens College in Athens, Alabama for two years.  I dropped out of Athens to join the Air Force.  I spent ten years serving in the Air Force, first in Washington D.C., then on to Denver, Colorado attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.  I worked in the administrative field, but separated at ten years and joined the Air Force Reserves in the Adjutant Generals office as a paralegal.  Separated from the Reserves four years later.

I remained in the Denver Metro area working in the Real Estate field, then on to Communications with Ram Mobile  Communications where I became Sales Manager.  I formed my own company with two partners in the telephone field but left that venture after a year and went into the lending field as a Mortgage Broker when the Savings and Loan crises wiped out that industry.  I worked with a small full service  lender in the Denver area until I left to take care of my mother after my father passed away in 1996.

I became a licensed Mortgage Broker in Florida until I accepted a position with a legal firm, one of the Freddie Mac designated counsels in Florida.  I retired in 2001 and have lived in Florida ever since, trading the markets to keep me busy.

School Bus Driver Married 3
The best thing that ever happened to me was in 1974, when I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.  The second best thing was a year later when I married Candy.  We have been happily married for 44 years.  We have three children who, unlike me, completed college and have great jobs. Over the years, I have been a furniture repairman, cattle farm worker, logger (in Oregon), VW technician (30 years), self-employed handyman,& plumber,  and now a school bus driver.
