Retired Widowed 2

After graduating from W-L, I spent a year and a half at UNC-Greensboro (rooming with W-L alum Lisa Goodrich) and then transferred to George Washington University and graduated in 1971 with a BA in English.  I married Jim De Deo, who was then practicing law in Fairfax, in April of that year and I entered law school the following fall at GW.  After law school, I spent ten years at the National Labor Relations Board, litigating cases involving labor issues.  While I was at the Board, I briefed and argued cases in the federal courts of appeals and worked on briefs to the Supreme Court and, more importantly, Jim and I had two children:  Elinor, born in 1978, and Daniel, born in 1980.  In 1984, I took a position at the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) and spent the next 25 years in various positions handling a variety of labor and employment issues, with the exception of a brief stint as a shareholder in the Washington office of a Dallas law firm.  In 2009, I retired from my position as Deputy Solicitor, after almost a year as the career official responsible for the Office of the Solicitor, awaiting the appointment of a Solicitor.

I am lucky enough to live next door to 3 of my grandchildren (ages 10, 8, and 5) and see them every day. My two youngest grandsons live in Keswick (just north of Charlottesville), so I see them fairly often as well.  Both of my kids are far more successful than I ever was.  Elinor owns and runs a design agency (Blue House DC, https://bluehousedc.com/) and Danny is a lawyer with Baker McKenzie in DC.  I only wish Jim was here to enjoy this wonderful family with me; unfortunately, he died of a heart attack in 2006.  He was far more of an athlete than I, coaching both kids’ soccer teams, and would surely have enjoyed his grandchildren’s prowess in soccer, softball, baseball, and hockey.  I keep busy helping out with grandkids and as an administrative judge on the Personnel Appeals Board at the GAO, a part-time position that requires very little of my time.

Retired Married 2
Unfortunately, won't be able to make the reunion this year.  I'm living in rural Arkansas on 125 acres with my wife, Carol and our four dogs.  Retired as an Army Major with seven years active Air Force and 20 years Army National Guard.  Recently retired From the Little Rock Police Department with 20 years as a police officer and eight years as a civilian helicopter pilot.  Since my mother and sister, who both lived in Arlington, have now passed away, not much reason for me to visit Virginia anymore.  I'm very active with the Masons and belong to several masonic lodges.  I wish everyone well and continued success. Married 3
I was one of the quiet nerds during my time at WL and never stayed in touch with any former classmates.  However at this point in my life, I find myself very blessed.  I completed my career as a senior staff researcher at Lockheed Martin and now teach computer science on a part time basis at a local college. I have been married to my best friend for over 40 years and have 3 wonderful daughters who in turn have good spouses that have provided us with 4 granddaughters.  Wishing everyone the best!  Enjoy life to the fullest!

Retired Committed Relationship 1
After graduation, I went to NVCC for a couple of years and then landed a job at the World Bank, where I made a career for 36 years, advancing through the ranks and ending up with "the" dream job.  I retired in 2005 and am now living in Miami Beach--also a dream place to live.  Most importantly, I married at 21 and had a son, who has given me 3 wonderful grandchildren.  I was divorced twice and am now finally with a man who makes me very happy.  So I can't complain:  I had a good career and ended it with the best job ever, have a wonderful family--including my partner, and live in what most people would call paradise.

Since I moved full time to Miami in 2014, I have not visited Virginia very much.  I very much miss it and still think of it as home, but circumstances change and we move on.  I have kept in touch with very few classmates, but life pulls us in different directions and it is good to live in the present.

Oil/Gas Industry Consultant Married 3
Graduated from W&L only because one of my teachers took pity on me and knew I was enlisting in the USAF.

Entered the USAF in Jul '69 and ended up making it a career for 21-years and 2-months. Highlight of my career besides getting married and having two boys and one daughter (now with six grandchildren) was in Southeast Asia working Rescue - was credited with taking part in 21 rescue missions resulting in 37 combat saves, four non-combat saves, and four medical evacuations. Overseas assignments/work took me to Thailand, Vietnam, Germany, Azores, Japan, United Kingdom, and Greenland. Completed my career at Kessler AFB, MS as an Instructor Supervisor of five USAF Technical Schools {who would have thought I could teach much less lead a corps of Technical Instructors:)}.

Because of what the USAF taught me, after the Exxon Valdez Incident, the following year while still in the USAF I was contacted by BP Alaska to be a consultant which I did for a month before my USAF retirement and then upon my retirement returned to the North Slope Oil Field in Alaska to start the Jones & Jones Consulting business which has been my working life since 2 September 1990. Highlight so far has been the entire 29 years in the business with special emphasis on the nine-years in the Middle East/Abu Dhabi UAE followed by three-years in Africa/Luanda Angola.

Currently semi-retired in Sun City Center, Florida where I concentrate on taking care of my wife, two "fur kids/Shih Tzu's," and my severe addiction to the game of golf.

Would have loved to come to the celebration but my wife's health does not allow her to travel; so, best wishes to all who attend, safe travels there and back home, and hope a wonderful time is had by all - looking forward to some pictures.
