Graduated from Westhampton College (University of Richmond) in 1972 with a BA in Music History and Theory. Intended to go to grad school for Music Therapy, but married, moved to Okinawa for two years while my ex was in Army JAG, had our first son. Then back to Ft. Lee where we had a 2nd son, and then moved to Luray, VA after he got out of the Army. Had a daughter and then divorced after 10 years of marriage. Grad school never happened! Moved back to Arlington in 1983, met and married my 2nd husband. Worked as a preschool teacher, then assistant director.  Had another son. Worked at a crisis preganncy center as the Volunteer Coordinator and as a counselor. Did other small jobs in between. Taught aerobics and owned my own company with two others. Finally ended up working at W-L, first in the counseling office and then the main office. Lived through the rebuild in 2008. All 4 of my kids went to W-L where they were involved in music and sports. Now 3 of the 4 are married, and we have 7 grandchildren and 4 stepgrandchildren. I'm happily retired and work during baseball season at Nationals Park! I also have two direct sales businesses. Aside from the aches and pains of aging, life is pretty good! :o) Send Mary Lib a MessageSend Mary Lib a Message

Retired Married 2
After W-L, I attended Old Dominion College for my freshmen year ('68), then transferred to VA Tech for fall '69, declaring a physics major--which didn't last long, but we won't talk about that.

The following summer ('70), I met a wonderful Radford girl named Bonnie at a mixer who told me she was a christian.  In my naivete, I figured anyone who wasn't something else was a "christian" by default.  What did I know?  We dated that summer, despite her knowing I was not on her team, spiritually.  Long story short, between her influence and what I learned from the biblical teaching on it, I came to personal faith in Jesus Christ that summer. It was, and will forever be, the single most important decision of my life.

Despite my change of heart, Bonnie and I didn't continue as a couple; her role in my life had been fulfilled. But to this day--nearly 50 years later--we're still good friends. She never married, still lives in Roanoke, and has even visited our home a few times over the years.  (I'm the only married man I know who has maintained a relationship with his old college girlfriend and his wife doesn't mind.)

Anyhow, after I graduated from Tech, I worked very briefly at a restaurant in VA Beach, quit that job and came back home to Arlington.  Got a job at C&P Telephone (later Bell Atlantic, then Verizon), stayed with them until the end of 2001, then became a self-employed telecom tech until the end of 2016.  During that time, I tried the Amway business twice, dabbled in stocks and stock options (not for the faint of heart), owned a Ferrari, visited Taiwan and China, had two minor sugeries, married once, and had two children.

Our daughter graduated from Radford and became, for a time, a 1st grade teacher at the same christian school where she'd been a student herself years before.  Our son, after college, worked both in Springfield and Richmond, and then joined the Army as a guitarist in one of their field bands. He's at Ft. Stewart, GA today.

For much of the last 10 years or so, my mother-in-law needed increasing help as she reached her late 80s and beyond, so we knew we would be in N. VA as long as she was alive.  Upon her death, we decided it was time to strike out for...somewhere.  After looking around for locales that seemed right for us, we moved to the racehorse capital of the country, Versailles, Kentucky--a little town just west of Lexington.  My wife has been a huge racing fan since the early 60s, so living just minutes from Keeneland race track and horse farms where Triple Crown champions and other winners are stabled is a dream come true for her.  And I love the peacful surroundings with no 495 or 395 or 95 anywhere in sight.  The "beltway" around Lexington has two lanes in each direction, not eight or nine.  After spending all my life in N. VA, this is the change I've needed.

We've gotten involved with ministering to the homeless here (they are in every community, even small ones), so our "retirement" is not as idle as I'd expected.  At this point, we're both healthy--if not as nimble as before.  So no complaints.

All the best to my classmates.  May God richly bless each of you.
